Op/Ed:
Promote Holyland peace
by not keeping kosher?

Nobel Prize-winner Bishop Desmund Tutu has advanced a novel idea for bringing peace to Mid-east. It's worked before. Why not now?

Although it would be pointless for the average citizen to boycott Israeli-made weapons. After all, how many Uzi's are sold at the grocery grocery store, or down at the mall?

But a "boycott grapes"-type effort targeting kosher products -- OU, Pareve, kosher, etc.? Now, something like that conducted over a period of time might just catch someone's attention.

It would be a passive, non-violent gesture, but could be effective, as international disinvestment in South Africa eventually worked.

But it would also be difficult, since more than food products are inspected by certified rabbis, right down to the underground steel pipes, according to a recent news story. Moreover, the food tastes good.

However, it would be something poeple could do here, that would be felt there.
