$5K reward put up
in orchard murder

YUBA CITY 6/21/02 (YSN) - A reward of $5,000 is being offered for information relating to the murder of Carol R. Guillen, whose body was found May 18 in a south Yuba City orchard, authorities reported Friday.

The 20-year-old teacher's aide had been shot in the face "more than twice," Sutter County Undersheriff Bill Grove said.

A bicyclist discovered Guillen's fully clad body about 7:30 p.m. in a walnut orchard at Bogue and Grove roads.

As investigators have reconstructed it, Guillen got a cell phone call and then drove to the Quick Stop Market on Lincoln Road in Yuba City where sometime between 6:30 and 6:45 p.m. she apparently picked up her killer.

Store surveillance cameras recorded Guillen's black Honda Civic arriving and leaving, but no one getting into the vehicle. However, the car was later discovered back at the market, investigators reported.

The reward money comes from the Carol Sunned/Cranston Memorial Reward Foundation. It is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible, officials said.

To give information, call the Sutter County Sheriff's Department at 530-822-7307
