Cointelpro lives again

MARYSVILLE 5/30/02 (YSN) -- Three of the 19 paragraphs in this news report that the FBI was being allowed once again to engage in "aggressive surveillance" of law abiding citizens dealt with opposition to the hard-line domestic spying power, and that only from the ACLU.

What has happened to the press? Are these two Washington Post reporters too young to recall COINTELPRO and the harm it caused?

All this comes from the fact that the FBI director was caught covering his butt by lying to Congress. The solution, as it always is, is to launch programs to spy more at home, since it is tooo difficult to do abroad. Once again the government cracks down on the victim and to distract attention from its failures.

The government can't be this stupid. This Alice-in-Spyland can only be part of a plan to complete the erasure of basic civil rights under the guise of anti-terrorism.
