YUBA CITY 10/16/02 -- The Winco supermarket on Franklin Road recalled some 80 pounds of fresh ground beef Tuesday after routine U.S. Department of Agriculture microbiological inspections showed possible e.coli contamination.
The items recalled one-, two- and five-pound packages of extra lean ground beef marked "14 percent max fat," a USDA spokesman reported.
Winco consumers were urged not to eat the questioned products and check their refrigerators for them. If found, the items should be returned to the point of purchase, the USDA spokesman said.
Perhaps a dozen customers returned beef products to the Franklin Road store, but none were among the identified items, assistant store manager Phil Henderson said.
"But people can return (suspected) items for refunds," Henderson said.
