MARYSVILLE 10/3/02 (YSN) - The Maryville City Council has picked Gary Price, 46, to be its community development coordinator.

Price was a city planner for Grass Valley for 12 years. He said Thursday he was excited about the Marysville appointment because it will be anther an opportunity to help a community experience a renaissance.

In his $57,000-a-year job, Price said he will wear several hats, overseeing city programs including zoning, building inspections and code enforcement. He will also direct community block grant programs, he said.

"One of the first things I'll be doing will be to review the city's architectural review process, try to streamline it," Price said.

Price plans to concentrate specially on smoothing out the architectural review for small projects -- "The ones that need a quick response," he said.

"I want to energize s renewal, a cultural renaissance for downtown," said Price, who took part in a similar restoration of civic restoration of Grass Valley in past years
