YUBA CITY 10/2/02 (YSN) - Authorities would like to speak with a woman who scared a 12-year-old with the odd request to help her find a missing dog near a school in the south city area, Sutter County Sheriff Jim Denney said Wednesday.
According to Denney, shortly before 3 p.m. Monday a woman driving a brown, late model Oldsmobile with Oregon license places stopped at the intersection of Pelican Place and Camino Del Flores streets and approached the boy at a water fountain near Andros Karperos Middle School.
When she asked him to help her find her dog, he fled on his bicycle. As he left, she appeared to reach out for him, then hurried to her car and left, Denney said.
The boy went home and reported the incident. He described the woman as being in her late 30s, heavy set with brown hair and eyes.
The incident is presently viewed as a suspicious circumstance only. No criminal charges are involved, Denney said.
"But we want to alert other schools in the area that it happened., and we'd like to contact the woman to find out what she wanted. Maybe she really did lose her dog," Denney said.
Denney asked anyone with information on the incident or the woman to call the Sutter County Sheriff's Department at 822-7307.
