Lobbyist lingers in critical
following head-on collision
ROSEVILLE 9/16/09 (YSN) -- A former Humboldt County supervisor and present government lobbyist remained in critical condition Monday following a head-on collision on Highway 70 last week, a Sutter Roseville Hospital spokeswoman said.
Donald Peterson, 64, of Loma Rica was injured about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday when the car in which he was riding collided head-on with a car illegally passing at high speed on Highway 70 near East Nicolaus, the California HIghway
Patrol reported.
Peterson's wife, Marorie, 54, was driving their Toyoto sedan southbound on their way to Sacramento when they were struck by a northbound vehicle operated by Damian Daily, 28, of Marysville. Dailey allegedly had crossed a double yellow line in an attempt to pass five vehicles, including a tractor trailer rig, the CHP reported.
The frozen speedmeter in Dailey's Camaro indicated he was traveling 97 miles per hour when he lost control and slammed into the Petersons. Rescuers had to slice the Peterson car into five sections in order to extricate him, the CHP reported.
Donald Peterson was airlifted to Rosecille Sutter Medical Center where he underwent surgery. Marjorie Petreson was transported to UC Davis Medical Center with less serious injuries, and was last reported in good condition. Dailey also was taken to UCDMC where he was listed in serious condition.
A Humboldt County supervisor from 1969 to 1976, Peterson quit his second term early to become a vice president at the College of the Redwoods in Eureka. He now owns Peterson Consulting which represents Yuba County and 10 other Northern California counties and related agencies before the Legislature..
