NICOLAUS 7/18/02 (YSN) - Warrene Z. Pierce, 53, of Nicolaus was killed when she lost control of her sporty convertible while overtaking another vehicle, authorities reported Thursday.
Pierce was northbound on Pacific Avenue just south of Nicolaus Avenue about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday when she tried to pass a sedan at a high rate of speed, according to Sutter County Sheriff's Department reports.
Pierce apparently lost control of her 1966 Mustang, swerved across the roadway and skidded and flipped into a ditch embankment, whereupon she was ejected from her car, Sutter County Undersheriff Bill Grove said.
Pierce, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene, Grove said.
