Not 'flawed', just dishonest: With the David Kay report out and all juiced with his epiphanic realization that, "Hey, there weren't any weapons of mass destruction after all, just like all those skeptics claimed," mainstream media are now timidly talking once again of "flawed intelligence" a possible "intellilgence failure."
That is a bunch of soft-peddled baloney. These Bush guys knew what they were doing. They intended to deceive, and decieve they did.
There was no "intelligence failure," and the reports the intelligence officers turned in were doubtless no more "flawed" than any other judgment document compiled by human beings would ordinarily be.
The actual intelligence reports were more likely ignored, ash-canned, revised or replaced by substitute reports fabricated by neocon ops in the Pentagon to cast the rationale for war in Iraq in terms desired by the Bush administration.
These fixed "reports" were advertised to the public as "intelligence," but were, in fact, self-serving lies, lies, lies and more lies.
The New York Times reports on this sudden awakening like this:
The other "intelligence failure" the NYT mentions -- the CIA's alleged failure to detect the collapsing Soviet Union -- supports the belief that the Iraq intelligence reports were concocted to promote agendas of people, religions and corporations that stood to profit from war.
The1980s the NYT refers to was the Reagan administration, a gala Republican fiesta in which that corporate stooge Ronald Ragan and his vice president, ex-CIA director George H.W. Bush promoted huge deficits to fund massive investments in the war machine.
There is every reason to to think that that "intelligence failure" -- noticed only after events revealed tje lies, as has happened in Iraq -- was another prime example of GOP governments lying to the public to support heavy "defense" expenditures from which they and their backers expect to profit. We need only juxtapose the names Cheney and Halliburton and the picture is painted..
In the 1980s, we were funding billion- and trillion-dollar Star Wars build-ups that were absolutely unnecessary based on false arguments shielded from the truth by hiding evidence of opposite realities. After all, what foolish voter would support such expenditures if he or she had suspected the threatening "enemy" was actually vanishing of its own accord?
The same thing is happening again in the "zero" years of the 21st century.
The only difference is this time the plundering of America's economy for the sake of the war machine is the accompanying crackdown on civil rights, of an unprecedented kind.
If the Ameican public again lets the GOPs latest "Oops" explanation of the lies it told pass unpunished, it will show -- again -- that it is either profoundly stupid, or silently complicit in domestic lies, foreign aggression, organized murder and brutal repression -- vicious acts that a better batch of Americans at Nuremberg solemnly judged to be war crimes of great magnitude.

The New York Times reports on this sudden awakening like this:
Even some Republican lawmakers are talking about a failure of egregious proportions -- akin, some think, to the failure to grasp the forces pulling apart the Soviet Union in the late1980s. President Bush is considering whether to order an investigation into the intelligence failure, an action he has so far resisted. SourceWhich raises an important point.
