Common Dreams looks at certain parallels in the political and military situations afoot in 1939 and 2003. It also looks at the legal status of the actions Bush is ordering and fostering. Among the things CE noted was how quickly Germany passed from invulnerable to vanquished:

When the Nazis attacked Poland in 1939, no one envisioned that just eight years later Germany would be leveled and its all-powerful reichmarshalls would be tried and sentenced under international law.

There is no logical reason why the same could not happen to the US. Story
