Death in solo car crash
at Highway 99, Wilkie
YUBA CITY (2/17/03) -- A 28-year-old Yuba City man was killed early Monday when his sedan ran off Highway 99 early Monday and hit a tree the California Highway Patrol reported.
Mario Rosales Fernandez was northbound on Highway 99 when his 1990 Chrysler drifted across the southbound lanes and off the roadway just south of Wilkie Avenue, the CHP reported.
The car collided with cement drainage culvert and a large oak tree before bursting into flames, CHP reports stated.
A passing motorist stopped and tried to extricate Fernandez from the burning vehicle, " but was unsuccessful due to flames and extremely high temperatures," the CHP report stated.
