Manslaughter plea nets
Hockenberry 4 years
MARYSVILLE (4/29/03) -- A Yuba County judge has sentenced Timothy Hockenberry, 43, to four years in state prison for the Nov. 23, 2002 drowning death of 49-year-old David Prothero.
Superior Court Judge James L. Curry imposed the sentence Monday after Hockenberry pleaded no contest to a charge of involuntary manslaughter, saying he had not meant to kill Prothero when he pushed him into Lake Ellis.
The two men knew each other for many years and lived in the same Marysville rescue mission. Both had been drinking heavily on the fatal day, court documents indicated.
